MARCH 25, 2017 // HOW 'BOUT Y'ALL (IPHONE DEMO)
LA PUNTA ZICATELA, OAXACA, MEXICO
Most days in Mexico I wrote a chart keeping track of what I spent on meals, cigarettes, and beer with a column for the day, and a column representing my dwindling reserve of pesos hidden in the bathroom cabinet. During this week I did not keep the journal. I have two songs written out with very little corrections. I think I was also trying to learn songs by Paul McCartney and Harold Arlen at the time, and you can hear some of those ideas in here. The words to this song are about family and societal judgements and how they are clowns expecting something impossible for the benefit of humiliation. The feeling here is one where children rise up and murder the clowns. It’s presented as the Peter Pan cartoon variety of diet violence. All the same, if you think about what’s really going on: What does it really look, sound, and smell like, when a crocodile eats a pirate? Let’s stay up all night and talk about it.
