LA PUNTA ZICATELA, OAXACA, MEXICO

-Eric told me the solo at the end was a temper tantrum but I really like it.
-The notebook style naivete of the production quality in terms of how the vocal was recorded is refreshing.
✞
-Some of the lyrics are lazy and recycled. These need to be put to death and replaced.
-Once the final words are written, they need to be practiced so they can be performed in a way that doesn’t sound like you’re reading them off a piece of paper.

-Eric sent me a mixed version of this composition he made by chopping up a Rolling Stones song on a Roland SP 404SX while we were in a tour van in the late summer of 2011. He had subsequently added a guitar part and some other instruments. While in Mexico in the winter of 2017 I wrote a rough draft of lyrics by improvising nonsense phrases and sounds over and over, and then committing to paper the parts I liked. This is my first documentation of a moderately coherent take. The apartment I lived in was a small adobe with a plastic lawn table for a desk and a ubiquitous fan blowing due to the warm, humid weather. I had suffered a head injury and numerous other personal life upheavals, which, although it was clouded from me at the time, profoundly effected my world view and what thoughts came out when I wrote them down. Think of it like looking through a cracked or warped lens. That being said, not everything I thought was wrong, I just didn’t know what I was thinking. I was operating simultaneously on several planes of awareness, which is foolish. Multi tasking is for people who lack self discipline, and cling to a self image unsupported by integrity in action.
